You've not really provided enough information for us to diagnose this problem... exactly what are your network config options, on both your router and your axim? What setup are you using?
My x51v works beautifully well with wi-fi both at home, at work, and all over town. I know plenty of others have it working perfectly as well, so I hardly think it's the unit's fault unless you really do have a totally duff example. When you're trying to set up a wi-fi network, the trick is to start with a very simple config... open access, not even WEP... and get it all going, then build up the config options you require one step at a time, checking it's always working as you go.
