Yes, you can view Chinese without PenPower installed. What you can't do is find an as-yet-unknown character, use PenPower to write it and have the recognizer recognize it. My suggestion: try Mactiontech's Monster Chinese. They have a WM5 version that was thoroughly stable on my Axim x51v. I foolishly uninstalled it to reclaim some space and when I tried to reinstall it...well, it was a bit of a mess. So, I've gone back to CEStar, which has always caused problems for me and whose tech support has always been out to lunch. Or perhaps moved to a parallel universe.
