yup - same problem you've got (plus a lot more with WM5 :pullingou). I often couldn't get AS to move beyond the synchronizing stage or sometimes even beyond trying to establish the connection. And it would never shut off even after trying to force it through Memaid, Wisbar, or MagicButton. Always running, always hogging resources. I even tried the setup a dummy Exchange server connection trick with no luck.
So, as of 1 hr ago, I'm once again the happy owner of a WM2003/A05 Axim.

Everything is fast and responsive again (without devoting 4 to 8MB to cache RAM), AS works like it should again, and basically my PDA is usefull again. :)
Just follow the revert instructions on the Dell website exactly as posted. Good luck!
