Well, sort of. What it does is not exactly 320x240 or normal 640x480. If you look at text on the website, and set it to smallest size, clearly the text is not in 320x240. But the graphics size becomes sort of bloated. What it actually does is pixel double the graphics, so that each pixel takes up 2x2 pixels, in some applications. This is where things get screwy. And more so because PIE dynamically resizes pictures when you're in the single column view. :(

Pocket IE and Acrobat Reader are a couple of key examples where this leads to a not-great experience. If you do the hack, then the pixel doubling goes away.

For Acrobat, you can do a fix that just fixes Acrobat, but it doesn't apply to PIE.... :(
