I think a lot of people would be interested in the nuts and bolts of this set up, ie: hardware required (Do I just need my Axim and wireless network), Software required, and any subscription service needed ( especially free ones). Thanks

You don't need any other hardwares beside your axim and wireless network. Maybe it's cool if we have a bluetooth headset.
You need to install SJphone software from
http://www.sjlabs.com/sjp.html
I used SJphone for PPC2003SE (.exe), build 303c, Oct 26, 2005
but as you can see on their website, you can download the preconfiguration for Vonage, Freeworlddialup.
You need a VOIP service.
-Freeworlddialup (
www.freeworlddialup.com) is free but you can call people in their network (like Skype, MSN, Yahoo) and some other VOIP network as you can see here
http://www.freeworlddialup.com/learn...eature=peering
-Callpacket (
www.callpacket.com) have many different plans (the cheapest is $0.95/month-used to be free)and very simple to setup.
proxy domain: voip.callpacket.com
user domain: voip.callpacket.com
server address: voip.callpacket.com
username: cp******* (as assigned by callpacket)
password: ******* (as assigned by callpacket)
-Vonage (
www.vonage.com). I did not try this, so I have no experiences.
Anyone knows how to setup with other VOIP companies such as Packet8, Sunrocket, Lingo...please post! Thanks
