I did the update to WM5 and ActiveSync 4.0 a couple days ago and have seen this message 2 or 3 times. I did an additional upgrade to ActiveSync 4.1 and haven't seen the message since. I don't have much test time since the 4.1 upgrade so that may or may not be a real cure. I got rid of the 5 minute automatic sync's at nearly the same time as the second upgrade so It may be that the number of sync's going on is much lower and so the frequency of error as well. Since your already using 4.1 I'm thinking this is still an open issue.
