Synchronisation cannot be completed sucessfully

Hi,
after three weeks of axim x51 ownership with ongoing moderate problems on activesync I have now lost the ability to sync.
This is the message I get. "Synchronisation cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft Activesync troubleshooter in Microsoft Activesync help on your desktop computer"
The PC sees the device, knows that it is password protected and requires password input. So some part of the process is working ok.
My last successful sync was on Saturday after I upgraded to A04 in the hope of resolving battery drain problems and white screen problems.
I am running activesync 4.1 and the activesync troubleshooter has not helped. I have done soft resets, reinstall activesync etc.
At this stage I am totally frustrated. I think it is time to send it back but before I do that just want to check if anyone else had this problem and how was it resolved.
The level of performance and reliability that I have experienced, and based on my views of this and other websites, that many others have experienced is far below acceptable.
Any inputs, please.
