Used the iPaq 2215 today...

I went into CompUSA and there it was.

The first thing I noticed was that the stylus blows away the Axim's flat one. Later I had to use my Axim, and it was simply painful. The new iPaq's screen is much clearer, slightly brighter, and much better contrast. The Axim's whites are literally yellow in comparison. I couldn't believe the difference. The difference in size is incredible...the pictures you see online don't even come close. This PDA is super small, but due to the side grips, it's not hard to handle like the 1910. The new iPaq oozes quality, everything is sturdy and solid and feels just right. Despite the small battery, it outruns the Axim on battery life, just a tad. Due to the faster bus and the fact that it was running PPC2003, this thing was FAST. I mean SUPER fast. The buttons were incredible, the Dpad couldn't be more perfect in tactile feel, same with the buttons. Lastly, the speaker was amazingly loud and crisp (despite being on the back of the unit), and the mic was incredible.

I did have a few complaints, however. The 2215 has no record button, anywhere, and has no jog dial. Also, the buttons are raised, so you can't push them with the stylus (minor moan). And lastly, it takes twice the time to soft reset, as the Axim (due to the new OS).

So, it was nice knowing you all...this place has been awesome, but I'm moving over to iPaq land. Going back to my Axim was simply painful, after I set down that 2215. I love my Axim, but the new iPaq is THAT good. I'll wait until Dell announces the X3 and see if it's any better, but otherwise I'm selling my Axim next month.

If you're a die-hard Axim fanatic, do NOT check out the 2215...it will convert you. If you're looking for a better PDA though, definitely check it out. It's incredible. :)
