There is an article in the Jan 2006 Maximu PC issue talks about this with headphones. They show a picture of Sony' MDR-DS8000 headphone system that has a gyro in the headphones help maintain the spacial nature of surround sound as you turn your head. This is big stuff compaired to the PPC!
