Hmmm, do you really just turn off the screen, but leave everything running? If you tap the power button once, it should go to sleep -- AFAIK -- which is most clearly indicated by the fact that the WiFi/BT light stops flashing, in addition to the screen turning off. In this mode, the drain rate should be very low... on the order of 1-2% a day at most -- it should last for quite a few days in that mode without draining itself.

(P.S. this is with a 256MB CF Card.)
