Okay guys, since memory is a very precious commodity on the Axim x51v, let's work together (one more time) to make a good step by step guide on how to clear up a little memory! Here's what I have so far. (yes I know there are more topics about this but I haven't seen a click by click thing anyone can use..)
* This is using
ROM version A04. The 'overwrite home.exe' thing DID work with my previous A01, but doesn't anymore..

Make a Backup dir somewhere. I suggest My Device\Backup for shortcuts and small files.
1/
Remove all startup items you don't need
- Use the file explorer to navigate to My Device\Windows\StartUp
- Move (to backup) or Delete shortcuts in there.
- BTTray: Program that tells you if bluetooth is ready/off/in use. Useless, you have a blinking blue light on top of your device when bluetooth is on. See tweak I for a tip below.
- odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart - ught what a filename. It makes launching the Odessey WiFi client quicker I think. Personally, I consider the Odyssey WiFi client useless, you don't lose much functionality without it at all, unless you have specially tweaked (hostly cisco) wifi hotspots to connect to.
- poutlook - Pocket Outlook works just fine without this startup. Useless.
- SplashV - Useless thing that introduces you to some of the windows functions, cut and paste.
- WirelessIcon - Personally I don't use WiFi enough to know if and when you need this, but I strongly suspect you can safely remove it without losing functionality.
-> Current free space: 31.98MB (in use: 17.49MB)

Overwriting used RAM with dummy files. (doesnt seem to affect anything..)
A little theory you will need to understand what's happening:
Windows Mobile 5 Works as follows: When started (soft reset), windows mobile is copied from system ROM to system RAM. As far as I understand it, all changes you make to the system are remembered (in flash ROM). so if you REPLACE a standard system file with your own, this won't be overwritten unless you hard reset. It will however restore all files you're missing (deleted).
- Hook up your Axim to the PC.
- Copy odClientCE.exe from the 'dummies' zip to both your My Device\Windows and My Device\Program Files\Funk Software\Odyssey Client\
- Tried doing the same with home.exe and splashv.exe but this gets refused - access denied.
-> Current free space: 31.98 (in use: 17.49) - no impact to do this at all on my axim! Thoughts?
I - I use the program BTSwitch.exe. Check
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...light=BTSwitch for it, thanks to the user
gwinter! Add it to your system somewhere, and switch bluetooth on and off with that.
