Post the contents of "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcesetup.log" if you are having trouble (open it with notepad, wordpad, etc.). (copy\paste it, use yousendit, attach it to the forum, whatever)
Post the contents of that file, so that we may see any problems that ActiveSync ran into during installation. That is, most likely, where the problem lies. I personally have no trouble browsing the PDA and memory cards (although I use Softick Card Export anyways).
Reinstating the removed/renamed files as DrBones suggested is not the route to go, as it will just give you a crippled ActiveSync again.
