And Dell is the one selling the upgrade; therefore I damn well DO expect them to address the issues with it, whether they originated with Microsoft or not.

I did not mean to imply they were imaginary, only to inquire some quantitafible answer as to what they are. There seems to be much whining on here and very little actual data. I do not see any issues with my system and I often wonder if perhaps some of the "tweaks" that folks are so quick to adopt may actually be part of there issue. After 20+ years in the IT business I can say that I have seen my share of user created issues with the "but I did not do anything" reaction when it is investigated.
If the issue is with the OS, do not blame the hardware, this is like blaming the tailor because the shoes you got to go with your new suit do not fit. Brother Bill does not consider "legacy" hardware when he ships a new OS. His goal is to be first to market and make it work later. The #1 solution from M$ is to update your hardware to the level they designed their OS for.
Fuzzy Orange answered my question nicely. And I must agree that is works well on my x51v without any of these issues. I know from reading further that this is not the case for the x50, but the OS was not really designed for them it seems. It does run there and Dell has every right to sell the upgrade. Seems folks need to slow down before they purchase things and make sure they are getting something they really need. Of course M$ will convince them the need it, I remember seeing people that did not own computers buying Windows95 and then asking the sales guy what computer they needed in order to use it. NOW THAT IS MARKETING
