If the issue is with the OS, do not blame the hardware, this is like blaming the tailor because the shoes you got to go with your new suit do not fit. Brother Bill does not consider "legacy" hardware when he ships a new OS. His goal is to be first to market and make it work later. The #1 solution from M$ is to update your hardware to the level they designed their OS for.
Fuzzy Orange answered my question nicely. And I must agree that is works well on my x51v without any of these issues. I know from reading further that this is not the case for the x50, but the OS was not really designed for them it seems. It does run there and Dell has every right to sell the upgrade. Seems folks need to slow down before they purchase things and make sure they are getting something they really need. Of course M$ will convince them the need it, I remember seeing people that did not own computers buying Windows95 and then asking the sales guy what computer they needed in order to use it. NOW THAT IS MARKETING

Morning,
Just my 2 cents:
1. Yes, there are "some" problems with WM 5 that are related to people using their old software programs with the new OS.
2. MS has been responsible for MANY problems in the past, but since WM 5 works on other devices without these problems(because other vendors adjusted the software to work with their devices correctly), however, there does appear to be a DELL induced problem/bugs for "some" of the items that have been listed in the AXIM and DELL forums. Even the DELL reps admit that there are some known bugs in the DELL software version of WM 5.0.
3. DELL sells the WM 5.0 as software that can be used for the x50. Saying that it was not designed for the x50 "may" be correct. But if that is the case, then DELL should not be selling it to me as an x50 upgrade. That seems like false advertising then.
4. I read numerous threads before I did my upgrade to WM 5.0. I added NOTHING to the x50v in the lines of additional software. The three items that I (and many, many other DELL ONLY USERS) have are: Every other day it will not power up and I have to do a soft reset; My battery, which use to last 3-4 days between a charge will not make it one day; when I add the SD and CF cards they work initially. But, after several power-ups, the CF card is no longer recognizable by the software and I have to do a soft reset to bring it back.
I know that other people have many additional problems with their x50's, but I can only speak for myself. DELL did release software with bugs in it; they are providing no feedback to their loyal customers or any customers, and yes, I do expect more from any company that sells me a product. If you sell me a product and it is defective, either fix the defects or refund my money. DELL tells us to UNINSTALL the software - that is their fix. I'm sure I'm not the only one that views this as an unacceptable solution.
