You, my friend, are the sh*t-bang-diggety!
This fixed my 80% at boot problem. I just did the OS flash, not the bootloader. I'm all working again; I was going to immediately go back to 2003, but now that this works, I may stick with WM5 for awhile.
Many many thanks for helping me avoid Dell Tech Support and getting a refurbed replacement!
