I use PocketDivxEncoder and I find that a bit rate of 542kbps (Setting Video Quality to 33) gives excellent quality combined with a reasonable file size (774 MB for a 2hour 43 minute VGA movie). There is no jerkiness whatever. I encode at 15 frames per second. This does not reduce the file size, but it does reduce the load on the processor which gives smoother playback. Hope this helps.
