I actually asked a question sort of like this over on Mort's webpage. Being the great guy that he is, he promptly posted a beta version with a tweak or two. Here's a link to the thread (which includes the download):

I'm not sure if this will help with playlist management like you are talking about, but it certainly helped me with single-handed use and I think it is a great update worth having.
