I'm not sure about Windows XP Pro; but I bought a Sony Picturebook last year w/ Windows XP Home preloaded -- didn't need to activate it the first time, and never had to activate it for the times I've reloaded the factory image.

I guess it would be much easier for MS to implement these activations with PPC, since like another forum member have stated, each PPC has its unique ID. Heck, MS could even give out these upgrade CD's for free like AOL CD's, and make you contact them for your key based on ur device ID. Then again, someone would probably crack the algorithm sooner or later.

Oh and in case somebody does come out with a hack or whatever, I would seriously think twice about using it. Imagine screwing up the upgrade; you're then messed since it won't be covered by any immediate warranty. ;) Then you'll have to buy the upgrade CD... wait for weeks for it to arrive without a working Ax.
