Flash drivers automatically defrag. You can write to any address in flash but to clear data, you must clear an entire block of memory. That block usually contains some data you wish to keep. The driver will consolodate that data to another block in flash before clearing a block of flash. The driver also keeps track of which blocks were erased so that no one area of flash wears out before the rest.
