I think that consoles have a lot of potential and they also have their market. I own both a PC and an Xbox and I couldn't say which one I like to game on more. I think both have their strengths and their weaknesses.

Just my $.02

The reason why the two games you mentioned works on an xbox is beacause the graphics settings are set lower than on a PC by default, especially resolution. The xbox does NOT support DX9 and therefore every graphics effect that requires it will not be in the xbox version. The reason Doom III puts such a strain on a Radeon 9700 is because you can crank up the graphics settings to insane levels designed for computers than almost noone has. If you were to use the same graphics settings as in the xbox version it would ru just fine on a GForce 2. But in the end it all depends on how much graphics means to you. Just don't believe that you will get the same fantastic graphics on your x-box as on the PC. The graphics on the PS2 on the other hand is hoplessly outdated any way you look at it.

As for the original question: Get the PPC. You already have the best stationary gaming devise (the PC). The PPC has great games and also programs for your every need. You also get an MP3-player, a movie-player (with a fair-sized CF-card) and somewhere to store pictures. For what it does it's cheap!
