Other than the obvious visuals whats the difference between the two? Am having a hard time distiguishing what programs/apps are located where. I like the home setup better because it reminds me of a palm screen. is there any way to shrink the icons to fit more per screen/page?

You can try third party programs like SPB Pocketplus or SHSH's iLauncher which adds icons to the today screen and you can adjust the sizes and have tabbed folders. It's pretty handy. Better than "Home"
I have pocketplus and its great. Alittle more expensive than ilauncher though.
