You can BackUp to SD, CF, network or PC with PB+. A 64MB CF or SD card would be excellent for backing up then moving to the PC. You will have to do the same with AS as well.

Its just many more convienences with PB+ vs AS. Like I said before, AS does the same, just more options/configurations to do so. I am sure you could have AS autonomically perform a backup.

Like I mentioned before, that file it creates can be then moved to a PC and if you want to restore it, as in the WHOLE system on the Axim, that file can be put on a unit after a hard reset and the WHOLE system is restored. No installing any programs such as PB+ again etc.. It is really convienent.

I would go far enough to say it is a must-have. Like Pocket Information or Agenda Fusion, the PPC will do it by itself anyways, its just more conviences in it with the 3rd party apps.
