I usually run with 32-35MB free, depending on whether I'm using the wireless or not. I suspect you've either got a LOT of junk running in the background, or else you've got too many Today plugins on your start menu...
Or that Dell screwed up the WM5 x50v upgrade, which is already a known issue here. :D The x51v doesn't seem to suffer from that type of problem though, at least not from what I recall.
