Not all the responses explain this well, so I hope this helps. When you close a program, or hit the "X", it actually just minimizes the program (this is true to WM2003, WM2003SE, WM5, etc.).

There are a few ways that you can close the programs (and thus keeping them from using up system resources and slowing down your axim):

-Use the Dell Switcher Bar (enable this under Starts/Settings/System (icon show up in the top middle). This tool allows you to switch between already opened programs (kind of like the task bar on the bottom of windows, to close certain programs, or all). Sometimes though, Switcher Bar will mess up and won't show the running programs (I don't know why, and haven't found a fix). You can also reach brightness and power settings from the icon.

-Go to Starts/Settings/System/ and tap Memory. From there go to Running Programs, and you can stop some or all of the running programs.

-Finally, as has been suggested above, you can use an aftermarket program such as Magicbutton (just google it). It's a free task manager.
