You might try the step-wise method in my thread on Partnership . . . Catch 22.

Same problem here !
I upgraded my X50v to wm5 and my 2 PC's from AS 3.8 to AS4.0. No problems on both PC's with syncing after that.
Then I read several reports that AS4.1 should work better (hahah!!!) on USB, so I decided to upgrade to AS 4.1.
Since then : on 1 PC (laptop) no problems at all, but on my desktop PC (also a Dell !) I cannot sync ever since the upgrade to A.S. 4.1!
I use no extra firewall, just Windows firewall on both PC's, which has all the necessary and correct exceptions, but still no sync.
I tried the earlier mentioned Outlook-settings checks - they work al fine- but still no sync !!
I have no WLAN of BT on my desktop-PC , so now I'm stuck !
The X50v is continously telling me "Connecting" ; my desktop is not inpressed, and keeps saying "not connected", although I hear the connecting-sound on my desktop when I turn my PDA on.
I tried un-installing AS4.1 ; installing AS 3.8 and after that again AS 4.0, soft rest, hard reset , reboot ; you name it - I've tried it - and all several times ! (2 days work !)
No communication with the X50v anymore .... Thanks MicroF*ckingSoft !! :realmad: :realmad:
So, what's next ?? (except for calling to Dell-support of course, which won't work, as we all know)
Thanx

WHOA !! Suddenly syncing WORKS, and ever better : with AS 4.1 ! :approve:
For the 1000-th time I tried to hard-reset my PDA, and guess what : this time it works !
Only difference I noticed with many onther earlier attempts, is that I hard-resetted the X50v this time AFTER applying the changes in Outlook as mentiond earlier by Ken in this thread. (Thanks Ken !!)
So, this time I CAN sync again !!
So, here's my theorie :
it seems to me that at the very first sync-attempt directly after upgrading to AS 4.1 during the "handshake", certain data is written to the PDA, and when some Outlook-settings were not correct at that time, this written data persists on the PDA, even if you change these settings in Outlook on your PC later on.
Please let me know if this is pure nonsense, or maybe it can be true ...
A very happy man - in despite of M$ !!

Control Panel-->System And Performance-->Device Manager-->Network Interfaces--> delete the windows mobile device. Re-insert the Axim in the cradle and see if Activesync will pick it up, give it a minute or two.

remove VPN software
My Company laptop uses Secure Connect VPN software; I had to uninstall/reboot/install VPN again/reboot ....now I can sync without changing my network settings as recommended by MS; only issue: AvantGo takes ages to sync and keeps triggering ActiveSync even though I have created a dummy server connection and set it to manual updates as recommended in this forum. Hope this help in case someone is using SecureConnect

Worked GREAT for me!! I had removed the partnership (trying to stop the WM5 ActiveSync draining the battery) and couldn't re-establish the sync connection. I plugged my Ax into the cradle, went into Device Manager, removed the network interface, and presto we were up and going in no time!! :)

well I finally found out the issue, good that I have some time...I removed the Sygate (agent 4.1) because when I kill the service does not work, after removed it works great. downgrade to wm2003SE, try the same activesync 4.1 and works great, no issue, even with the SyGate agent, sooo, I upgrade it again, and test it, and guess what, does not work, so the issue is with the combination of WM5-SyGate agent-and ActiveSync., I try again the step of deleting the windows device and still no bananas...well at least I am having a lot of fun...

Having a similar problem, synched last night, got up this morning, added a couple of items to my PC calenda and tried to synch. Synced the contacts but got to the calendar and it stopped completely. I left it for 4 hours and when I returned, it was churning at the same place as when I left.
I uninstalled 4.1, tried and got the same results. Did a back up on the Axim and hard reset, restore, still the same problem. After a week of synching OK, it won't at all. I'm dead in the water.
Any ideas?

FWIW, I downgraded back to WM2003SE. I had become used to the WM5 speed, and did get it working with AS 4.1...but hit a snag, so decided to try the downgrade process.
HOLY SMOKES IS 2003SE FASTER!!! I am staying with it until M$ gets their act together...or processors get faster. The WM5 is a hog.
Sorry for the rant :soap:

I just received my X51V and had this same issue. I actually uninstalled ZoneAlarm, rebooted, then pulled by AX from the cradle, and then put it back in the cradle and all works. Give it a shot, it may work for you or anyone else that reads this.
