Hi Folks...
I got another weird Activesync bug to add...
First, I setup syncing over bluetooth which works very well. Then I tried to install larger cab-files vie this BT connection and guess what: The device STILL disconnects after about 2mb of transfer.
Now isn't that weird?!? I thought maybe the USB connection gets broken after a while but transfers dont work over bluetooth either. So the problem isn't usb OR bluetooth at all, it's Activesync itself and the crappy underlying protocols.
I wonder whether they did any beta-tests AT ALL on this crippled piece of shitty software...

My workaround for all people who can't copy larger cab onto their X51vs:
install the software on the desktop. then go to /programs/microsoft activesync/bla and copy the extracted cab file to some ftp. from there, get it via wifi directly onto you x51v and install them.

WELL, Hate to start off this way, BUT, long story short, I just returned the unit, 1 gb card and GPS cabled system. My logic was, for almost 700.00, I need this BS..............Wrote dell a "nice" letter. The last line was I'll buy it all back, tomorrow, when I can take the ax out of my pocket, cradle it, push the button and IT WORKS.
Too bad really, I was synched..........er psyched about my first Pocket PC. I was already to leave my Palm behind..........glad I didnt

I too struggled with this for 2 hours and finally have it sync with AS4.1. I had to enable TCP/IP for the network connection that gets created for Axim X50. Go to network connections -> open properties for the connection related to Axim -> Enable all the items alog with TCP/IP. I do not know why those items get un-selected in the first place.

Let me know how it goes.

I just got the iMate JasJar (O2 XDA Exec) which runs WM5 and it won't connect. I'm using the free version on ZoneAlarm, so I may have to upgrade this for ActiveSync 4.1 to work.... Thanks Microsoft.

I just upgrade to activesync 4.1 from 3.8 and i have problem with sygate personal FW Pro too. How can we do to synch without turn off the fw? Yesterday i turned off sygate for 5-10 min and antivirus report me that i taked win32/tenga virus from the web, i need sygate fw!!!

Upgrade your Activesync 4.1 to the stable version.
Also, Update your sygate software, you should have no problems now.
If anyone is having problems connecting to their device, I have a guide in the thread i supplied above as well.
