Possible solution for ActiveSync via USB

I was haveing a terrible time with my X5 connecting to my Dell 8100 desktop via the USB cradle, but dropping the connection within a minute or so. The solution that worked for me was to install a USB 2.0 card and connect to it instead of the USB 1.1 built into the 8100. The connection now seems very stable using AS 4.1.

Perhaps as we add more USB devices the older 1.1 interface gets flakey even though you plug directly into the computer instead of a hub. It would be interesting to hear from anyone else who has tried this with (or without) success to help those who are still struggling.

AS4 Sync Issues and Old Host Computers

It turns out that USB 1.1 is the fly in th eointment.

Or more correctly, AS4 seems to require USB 2 to operate properly. I have an older Dell laptop that I love (and is highly tweeked). I've already ordered a PC Card USB 2 adapter for $24.99.

My troubleshooting process consisted of repeating step on my old laptop that had been unsuccessful on a brand new home desktop that hsa USB 2 ports. Everything being equal, that was the culprit.

There is one fle I intend to inestigate. Its RAPIMGR.EXE. If anyone knows wqhat this file is for or does, please post here.

Good luck all.

Update

Turns out that AS4.0 failures corrpted Outlook In Box items when the process failed. After cleaning up In Box and testing, I found that AS4.0 w.USB 2.0 still crashed.

I finally located developer version of AS4.1 via link ptovided by another on threads here. Since installing AS4.1, everything is back to normal.

Note to self, GHOST laptop prior to next SW upgrade!
