Did you try run the Activesync installer program again to see if you can re-install or uninstall? Alternatively I would stop the Activesync process from starting then manually delete install directory and registry entries - only if you are comfortable doing this as it can make things worse if you delete the incorrect registry entries.
When you say your programs won't run anymore - what error messages do you see and what OS are you using?

In another thread it was suggested that you:
On your computer go to Start, Run and type in "regedit" and search for activesync. Delete anything with references to it.
-Restart Computer.
-Install Activesync.
Restart.
-Do a soft reset on your device and put it in the cradle.
I had to reinstall ActiveSync & I used activesync 3.8. Worked like a charm!

The OP has a X51v (or at least that is what he is returning in another thread) and ActiveSync 3.8 wont work with that..

If you are using Windows XP, do a System Restore to a date before you installed ActiveSync.
Start Button-->All Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools-->System Restore.
You should not lose any of your data by doing this.

You could try that but don't put the pda in the cradle until you re-install AS. it will cause a problem everytime that way.

it doesn't allow me to uninstall the program or some of my other programs. and when i try to re-install, the cd doesn't allow me to since it's already inside my computer. when i try to manually delete the foler, it doesn't allow me to. i haven't tried deleting the reg file for active synth, i'll try that when i get back hom tonight.
i'm using XP home edition. it says something like "won't allow because i'm either in safe mode or i have not installed the program correctly. please contact personal"

i tried to do a system restore, but when i installed active synth, it deleted all my previous system restore points! it also deleted my soundcard, so now i don't have sound in my computer and it cripled my aol among other programs.

It is unlikely that activesync did all that most likely something else in addition to activesync. Do you have all of the latest patches from Microsoft before installing? There is an update out there that causes some problems with installations by changing some directory permissions. I d not know much about it but the IT department at work had serious problems from it.
It sounds like you may need to do a full reinstall (safest thing sounds like) of the OS and all apps to get straight.
Good luck,

The problem may not have anything to do with ActiveSync. Many windows XP users have been having problems because of the Microsoft Windows security updates that were released this last week. There is one that fixes some security flaw in the Plug-And-Play Drivers. While for most WinXP configurations it has worked fine, for some it has been a disaster. I had the same problem where my Device Manager went totaly empty and I had lots of problems with other software. I had just gotten my new Axim the week before and thought it was the culprit. I spent days trying to re-install drivers etc.. Finaly I found this post that described my situation:
http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/show.../Number/231515
I went to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs -->
now make sure that "Show Updates" is checked at the top. And then try uninstalling the Windows update KB905749.
You might have to reboot afterwards. This did the trick for me. Hopefully they will have a workaround for this update.
-Good luck

i do have the current updates from Microsoft, but yeah, when i called dell for the first time about active synth they said my firewall my be blocking it, so they made me turn every program off and it did work, but once i restarted it again, that's when my computer went south.
i'm not worried if i need to reboot my main drive, but if it's affected my backup drives that was connected during the time, i'm completely f**ked.

No joy at all. AS won't connect for nada. Tried manaully configuring the IP it was trying for - nope. I let if find the IP auto and BSOD. Tried 4.1, more of the same. Uninstalled, removed all traces with regedit, reboot, install 3.8 and nada. So now I have a WM5 paperweight with no data or user installed programs. Even tried BT but that's problematic as well.
Any ideas as to why 3.8 won't connect so I can roll back?
Thanks.
