ActiveSync Why has it taken so long for this category?

Post the contents of "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcesetup.log" if you are having trouble (open it with notepad, wordpad, etc.). (copy\paste it, use yousendit, attach it to the forum, whatever)

Post the contents of that file, so that we may see any problems that ActiveSync ran into during installation. That is, most likely, where the problem lies. I personally have no trouble browsing the PDA and memory cards (although I use Softick Card Export anyways).

Reinstating the removed/renamed files as DrBones suggested is not the route to go, as it will just give you a crippled ActiveSync again.

I cannot downgrade to AS 3.8--even after following all of the posted advice here.I uninstalled, removed the files in system 32 and the directories listed in program files. I stil get the "remove existing microsoft activesync" dialog box.
I have no "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcesetup.log" nor an activesync directory it just craps out with the dialog box and terminates setup.
Help!

i miss wi-fi syncing too, but i also want the improved speeds of AS4.x.... i wish microsoft would reimplement the feature that we all want.

I'm having the same problem too. Had to do the whole har reset thing and resinstall of Activesync. Now Explore won't let me read the SD card.

Is this any help? I hope so, as I'm stumped

Well, your BIGGEST hint should be the "File not copied" warnings all throughout that log. I don't know where those files are located, but that's why there's a "Search" feature. Searching the "WINDOWS" and "Program Files" folders should provide the location of the files.

Uninstall ActiveSync (any and all versions).

REBOOT!!

For each "not copied" file where it says "source version: 3.7.1.4034":
If it's not obvious that it's a different one than what your looking for (for example, if a file you are looking for turns up twice, once in a Macromedia Dreamweaver folder... DON'T delete the Macromedia one)... and DELETE (or rename\move) ALL of those files listed as "Not copied."
Reboot!!!

Install ActiveSync 3.7. Proceed from there to do whatever you want with ActiveSync.
