Bluetooth Sync on multiple PCs
After some work I was able to get the correct COM ports assigned to ActiveSync on both my desktop and laptop. I would like to use BT to sync to both computers, but I don't know if this is possible. On my desktop, I have COM8 assigned to ActiveSync, AS listening on COM8, and syncing works great; when I partnered my X51v with the desktop I was able to select ActiveSync as an option.
I then set my laptop to use COM7 for ActiveSync (took a while - make sure you don't have hidden _modems_ as well as COM ports taking up COM7 and COM8). However, when I pair my X51v with my laptop, I only get "Serial Port" and "Dial Up Networking" as available services. Everything is the same as the desktop except that I'm using COM7 instead of COM8. Is it possible to have two ActiveSync partnerships?

Id like to revisit this since I've asked myself the same thing. Is it possible to have activesync over bluetooth work with multiple partners withotu having to manually reconfigure? Im guessing not without hacks or additional programs since the BT activesync (on the PPC) just has the option 'go' not 'go where' and I doubt it will scan for more than the last known PC.
Anyone? | |||

I only got bad results as well. in fact, after i tried to set up the activesync over BT with my laptop, i also lost BT activesync to my desktop which was working before. now, even on my desktop only shows 'serial port'.

I've been able to sync via Bluetooth on my Desktop and IR on my laptop, but IR is horribly slow. I figured out that it's just not worth the trouble - at least until all these sync and bluetooth issues are fixed. I've even lost the ability to sync via USB cable to either Desktop or Laptop.
With the BT issue showing only "serial port" the only thing I can say is to check and make sure you have the right COM port set on the Axim and on the desktop (either 7 or 8). By that I mean you should have a "Desktop" listed in the COM Ports tab of the Bluetooth settings on the Axim, and ActiveSync should be enabled to be accepting connections on COM7/8. Other than that, for me it's just been trial and error.

Miguel,
I went thru same scenario where i lost usb sync as well. at least i got the usb bakc. i was able to get it running on both desktop and laptop by deleting ALL profiles (from both PC and PDA) and starting over. with 'serial port' showing as the only service, i'm still having issues. as you mentioned, i also think it's related to COM port settings. after trying different things i got com1~18 all showing as (in use) now. freakin Windows...

Thanks for the tip on USB syncing - I'm too afraid to try anything now and lose my BT syncing but I will definitely keep that in mind if I need the USB later.
I used to have a lot of COM ports taken up as well. I was eventually able to clear some of them up when I found out that some COM ports were reserved for modems that were no longer (or never were) in use. There is a setting in the Device Manager to show hidden devices. Make sure you check for hidden modems as well as COM ports. Once I removed the modems that were taking up COM 7/8 and I fiddled with the BT drivers, I got BT communications ports listed under those port numbers.

Has anyone had any luck with syncing two computers (work & home) via bluetooth yet? It seems it works fine, but then my "home" connection disappears when I'm at work and vice versa...then I have to reconfigure. I am using COM8 in both places...does that make a difference.
Thanks for your help, Shannon

I do! I do! *raises hand*
I don't know exactly if I did anything special... Ive just defined two PC's both with bluetooth and activesync working. And Im pretty sure that the activesync on my PPC starts looking for the second PC when the first can't be found. Weee ![]()

I Only sync with bluetooth on both my work laptop and home desktop. All I have to do is turn off both activesync and the bluetooth and then turn them both back on(on the axim) I go to sync with each computer each time.
