Hi, sorry if I've made another thread for same thing but I searched and could not find an answer. I have installed wb5 on my axim x50v and active sync insists on syncing every two minutes. I shut down the software on the pc and i shut down the axim, while in the cradle, and it still turns both on and syncs every two minutes and leaves the axim on and the software up on the monitor when it's done. Is this normal? it sure didn't do this with wm 2003 second edition. I have been on the phone with dell for three days and finally had to ask for a supervisor and he tells me this is normal and deal with it.
new to pocket pc in july. Any help would be appreciated. tyty vm. JJ
There is a setting on your computer active sync that you can set manual sync or auto sync and auto sync lets you set a time interval to sync you need to change this to manual sync or sync only once not every 2 minutes.

Yes, it's in ActiveSync Options, Schedule, then select Manual to avoid continuous syncing.
thank you for answering, but that is the problem. all options and scheduleing or anything for that matter is grayed out and not usable.
also, doesn't it seem strange that the Dell tech support folks would tell me this is normal when there is a scheduling option that should be used? I think they be pulling my leg and not wanting to have to help me.

Yes, either they are stupid or they can't be bothered - not good news either way!
Have you tried deleting the Activesync partnership and setting up a new one?
Are you on a PC that you are not the administrator for? You have to have administrator access to install Activesync and be able to get to the settings.

Oh yes, many many times. plus deleting active sync and reinstalling, plus unplugging cradle and waiting over night, plus un and re installing outlook 2003. I've tried it all and they just tell me it's a software problem and microsoft will do a patch some day. and in the mean time all I have to do is unplug the usb cable every time after I sync. I told them that was jury rigging and i'd spent way to much money to be jury rigging anything, and since the dell logo was all over every cd they had sent me it was their responsibility to fix the mess or give me my money back. Talked to a supervisor late last night and he suppose to have me an answer by 7pm tonight. Oh joy!, i'll bet you lots of money it will not make me happy. ty, JJ

Good question, but yes, I am the administrator. tyty, JJ
That's a load of garbage. I am running Windows XP SP2, Outlook 2003 SP 1 and I don't have any problem like that. The worse thing that happens to me is every once in a great while I get a conflict that won't resolve. I have to go to rules change it to something other then replace on item on my device, and then change it back and it works fine. Weird..but it doesn't sync all the time.

Was there ever a resolution to this problem? It's been a while but I seem to remember in AS3.x that you could select to only sync when an item has changed.
I have the very same problem as the original poster. I have an X51v, WM5, ActiveSync 4.0. Syncs every few minutes. Schedule is grayed out so I can't change it. I've removed and re-installed AS to the PC.
Try this. Sorry I quoted this from another post. Let us know if it works

I think I can help you with these two. Disabling Error reporting did not seem to have an effect on my processor speed, but disabling automatic syncing (and activesync startup) did. The new activesync is a dog, even worse than it was on WM2003SE and makes my x50v almost useless while running. I will list the steps to disable it. Note that you will still be able to sync, but AS will no longer start up on it's own.
1) Start up AS on your x50.
2) Tap the menu tab/soft key and tap "Add Server Source"
3) Configure a server source with a dummy IP address, user id, password and domain name; these do not have to be real
4) Once configured you should have another sync source show up on your main AS screen...continue on.
5) Tap the menu soft key again and you should see that the sync schedule option is no longer greyed out.
6) Change your schedule from a timed automatic start of AS to manual under both fields
7) If you try to sync now, AS will try to contact your imaginary exchange server and that will take forever until it times out, so you can now delete the exchange server from your list of sync sources. Your changes to the sync schedule will remain and will survive soft resets too.
If you have a switcher app running (like vbar) you will find that when you close AS it will now stay closed and you should see a corresponding increase in speed.
Post some feedback and let others know if this worked for you. I am not really sure if this is what sped up my x50v but I know that it no longer slows down to a craw on a regular 5 minute schedule and AS only starts when in the cradle or when I start it for BT syncing.
OR Maybe this:

This was an issue with my old Toshiba e800 and so I tried the same thing with my x51v. All you need to do to prevent activesync from automatically turning on your axim is:
If you just want to charge the axim:
1. insert axim in cradle
2. quickly turn off axim before activesync connects.
If you waited for activesync to connect and then turn the PPC off, it will turn on again after a few min.
If you want activesync to stay off after you have finished syncing:
1. Turn off axim while in cradle
2. Turn on axim and quickly turn it off again before activesync connects.
Please give me some feedback. So far, my axim has been sitting for over 30 min and hasn't turn back on.
