It must be a miracle! Good old Microsoft, i knew they would get their heads out of their a.. um... well to put it bluntly, Activesync 4.1 fixes all my problems! Weeks after upgrading to Windows Mobile 5.0, activesync 4.0/4.1(the leaked unstable version)
didn't sync at all. "Connections" wouldn't detect my device, i was told so many things to get it working and it didn't work.
1)Uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot. -DIDN'T WORK
2)Turn off Firwall like Nortons,Mcafee, etc. -DIDN'T WORK
3)Configure Microsoft Exchange Server or Microsoft Outlook. - DIDN'T WORK
4) Configure Network Setting for Mobile Device. - WHAT MOBILE DEVICE?!
Two Solutions were found though from me.
Solution A) USB Bluetooth Adapter
-Costs between $20- $50
- Setting them up is pretty easy (depending on the user).
-=Warning=- You are now jumping into a Guide!-=Warning=-
1.After installing the bluetooth usb adapter, make sure you have your Axim's bluetooth on in order for your device to be read by your computer.
2.Once you do, select Activesync on your computer and click on "Connection Settings" in your "File" tab.
3. Inside, Make sure all boxes are checked and that the com port is "com3" (trust me, you'll find out later on).
4.Now this may be lazy but I'm going to select everything now from the Activesync guide, I will not call it my own mind you.
a.Open the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel.
*My notes- Click on the "start" menu of your computer, select Contol Panel. Inside, click on "Network and Internet Connections", then Bluetooth Devices. Now to continue the help from microsoft...
b.On the Options tab, select Turn discovery on and Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer.
c.On the COM Ports tab, click Add.
d.Select Incoming (device initiates the connection) and click OK. Note the number of the COM port that was added. The COM port number must be no higher than 20.
* My notes- Most likely it will be "com3", so that explains my 3rd step.
e.Click OK to close the Bluetooth Devices Control Panel.
f.In ActiveSync on the device, tap Menu, then tap Connect via Bluetooth.
Note by Microsoft- Media (music and videos) can be synchronized only by using a cable or cradle connection.
*My Notes- I had to fiddle with this one a bit, something about adding your Desktop/ laptop PC to your pocket pc, passcodes... I'll repeat, I had to fiddle with this one a bit...
It should work, maybe someone can eloborate on step f... i'm not really sure of it... i should have written that part down when doing it, i was just highly excited when i saw that it synced!
Solution B) Grab the newest STABLE release of Activesync from the link above (thanks dmlomartire ;)! ).
-=WARNING=- You are now walking into a Guide!-=Warning=-
1. As soon as I installed Activesync 4.1 (stable) and put my Axim into it's cradle (hooked up already to my pc) my takbar/toolbar of windows XP (located on the bottom of the screen of your monitor) started acting weird, like I was gaining a new internet connection or something...
2. I immediately went to my Start Menu=> control panel=> Network and Internet Connections=> Network Connections and found something interesting in it. Where the hell did this "Windows Mobile-based Device" come from?
*My Notes- If your device automatically gets picked up by activesync already since you updated, disregard the next steps.
3. Excited as I was, I then clicked on the Activesync icon on my computer and clicked on "Connection Settings" in the "File" tab.
4. Inside, make sure all the boxes are selected and click on the "Connect" button. Your device should pick up.
Hopefully this two part guide helps anyone out. Now i don't sync any of my items with my computer (calender, notes, etc) except for programs, so please don't ask me how. Also, please don't ask me anything about outlook, I do have Outlook 2003 SP2 but i don't use it. Yahoo for me :approve:! Hopefully someone will comment that this guide does help them out or at least someone posts in this thread. Thank you Microsoft for listening to your users, this Activesync 4.1 ain't bad at all!
