Activesync disconnecting in few seconds, help please
I'm new to the forum and have been searching and reading some useful threads, let me explain my problem to see if anyone can help me.
I have an x51 (with rom A04 recently installed) and I'm using AS 4.0 (I installed 4.1 but had the same problem, so went back to 4.0). Dell Inspiron 6000, windows xp home, fully updated.
The problem is this: I put the axim in the cradle (turned on or off, works the same), the network connection is made and then the AS launches, within seconds (sometimes up to a minute) it disconnects. Sometimes it goes all the way to "synchronized", sometimes the connection isn't alive long enough for this to happen. Even though the activesync says I'm not connected, the connection is still active on "Network Connections"
Here's what I've tried:
- Installing 4.1, and going back to 4.0 (with rebooting and erasing the rapi32.dll and ceut*something*.dll, program files dir, common files dir).
-Installing and uninstalling the network device (from device manager)
-enabling only the 3 options in the connection properties (microsoft networks, TCP/IP, and file and printer sharing)
-disbling every sync item to see if anyone is causing the problem
-Soft resets
-Hard resets
-Disabled firewall (windows, I'm not using norton or mcaffe or other)
I have 2 cradles so I tried both cradles with my laptop and a desktop (every combination) to discard cradle or axim physical failure.
Does anyone know what could be my problem? I've tried finding an answer in other posts but have not come across anything, I already talked to a dell guy but they didn't help either. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have an AntiVirus app with a Real-Time Scanner?

I have TREND Micro OfficeScan, I don't know if that is a real-time scanner, but I've had it for more than a month but the axim toruble started less than a week ago.

I had that issue with my x50v, and deleted all partnerships, then recradled and all was well. Just be wary if you have anything associated with specific partnership names though.
Hope that helps!

How can I make sure to delete EVERYTHING from a partnership? Just File|Delete Mobile Device and that's it? Because if that's it I already did that like 4 times, changing names.

Uninstall ActiveSync, reboot, then reinstall.
Been through this a couple times already; not what triggers it.

After talking to a dell guy for like 45 min. and using some learnings from the forum I came with the solution:
Open msconfig from Run menu. on services, I disabled offiscan real-time scanner (thanks to wooch!) and voilą, it worked. So the conclusion is: for all you people with OfficeScan installed, you will have to do this in order to disable the real-time scanning, otherwise you can't do it from the program itself.
Thanks for the help everybody!

The reason I suggested it is because I have this happen @ work sometimes. We run an AV client that has a RealTime Scanner. If the realtime scanner has to stop AS to scan it, it may disconnect it. I notice that it will disconnect, and then reconnect shortly afterwards. It does not do this when connected to my home PC, and I have a different AV app on it . . . Glad you found the culprit :)

I am running an X51v and the same issue was occuring in my system. After about 1.5 minutes, the connection between the handheld and Activestink 4.1 would be severed. I too tried the basic troubleshooting methods without any luck. I found that in our envirnment, it was the TrendMicro firewall that was causing the issue. After disableing the service at startup (MSCONFIG), the handheld would stay connected. Hopefully this helps others.
Has anyone out there in the corporate environment (we are running Trend 7.0 currently) found a patch or anything for this? I truely do find it hard to believe it was the firewall itself and not a code/software error, as the device would make a connection for a limited time. I would think if it were a true firewall/port issue, the connection would have never been made.
