Wont sync- not compatible with ver. of active sync (bull!)

Im going on just a little over a YEAR now without being able to use this fricken X3i. Long story short....

Stopped syncing a LONG time ago.
Then, it told me my backup battery was dead.
Ripped it apart last night, and swapped the battery out.
Reinstalled the newest ActiveSync......it worked once. Then said

"Unable to connect to your mobile device. It is not compatible with the version of Microsoft ActiveSync currently installed on this desktop computer".

I uninstalled then reinstalled with 3.7. It synced ONCE then gave me the same crap. It starts syncing......then says that message.

Also, the fricken backup battery light just came on again a minute ago. I checked it, and it said it was operating "NORMAL".

One problem at a time. Whats up with this sync!?

One thing that I found in order to pinpoint the problem was to uncheck all sync options (in active sync window - tools, options). And then one by one add the calendar then sync. Add the contacts then sync, etc. There could be a conflict with one of the options. Mine was with favorites. I know how frustrating it is to not be able to sync, especially when in a hurry.

You might also delete the partnership and start over.
Palm III -> Palm IIIe -> iPaq H3650 -> Palm m500 -> x50 -> x50v

Don't drive like you own the road, drive like you own your car.

No options are selected and I have not even set up a partnership. Its just sitting there "trying" to connect now. It did connect this morning ONCE when I first turned the computer on. Then it dropped it and gave me the same error message.

For reference- There is NOTHING installed on the x3i. Its a clean slate, and clean install of ActiveSync on the computer.

Update-

I thought maybe it was the laptop I was on, so I switched to another computer in the house. It connected (as it always seems to do the first time) and I was actually able to copy 1 whole file over!

Next program I tried to install it broke the connection mid way through. Now, even after a soft reset it will not connect. ERR!!!

Oh yeah, one more wrench in this thing! Now it says the backup battery is very low again. It was replaced 2 days ago!!!

Same crap, another day. I did a hard reset, reinstalled 3.7 and still wont sync. It starts to connect for a few seconds then...

If anyone has 5 free minutes to talk me through a possible solution please help. My patience is well past gone. wadd3456 is my AIM name. Or skaskawitz@bellsouth.net is my email.
