X3i will not connect (ongoing for a year) HELP!!

Ok, Im giving this one last try before I strap this thing to my bumper and back it into an F'in tree.

Ive asked several times about this problem and still cant nail down a solution or even a work around.

Here is what we have;
X3i, new battery, new backup battery, just did a hard reset, uninstalled ActivSUCK from the computer and installed again (3.7). Also tried this on another computer.

X3i connects as guest (because I dont need to sync anything) then as soon as I try to copy something over, it gets partially through (typically after 3seconds of copying) then it stops.

After this point I can not connect ever again. PERIOD. It just says "Unable to connect to your mobile device. It is not compatible with the version of Microsoft ActiveSync currently installed on this desktop computer".

Please please please, help me through this. Patience has long since LEFT. :exc:

Have you tried disabling firewalls, antivirus, etc.? Also, after you did a hard reset, did you restore? Restoring may restore back the old problem.

I didnt physically do anything to the axim (restore wise). Dont you have to make a physical connection between the computer and axim to do a restore? I cant make a connection.

My home computer has no antivirus programs on it. As far as firewalls, one was never set up. Just incase I checked and the Windows one is turned off as well. :(

It seems to me that the 'handshaking' between the PC and the X3i is not ok.

Have you looked for bent pins at the X3i-connector or the USB-cable ?

It's a well known problem ...

Just a wild shoot from my side.

Thats not the case either. I get the same results when I attempt to do the infared connection.

Is it your PC or X3 that stops the communication?
This is a very important point.

In order to find out:

Have you tried to monitor your AS-process on your PC while running?

On an XP it's ctrl-shift-esc

You may select to monitor the I/O process, the disk R/W and the cpu just to get a clue.

It's really difficult for me to debug without access to the systems.

I appreciate that !

Activesync 3.7 or 3.7.1? I thought 3.7.1 fixed issues with staying connected?

Its 3.7 (which is what it came with years ago). I dont think its the version of sync, since I have tried 3.8 etc. Plus, it used to work fine for a longgggg time then one day decided to stop.
