Stop Auto-Start of ActiveSync on PC

One of the computers I use ActiveSync 4.0 on is very slow and doesn't have that much free memory. I don't use ActiveSync that often on it and would like to be able to stop it from automatically starting. I tried deleting the registry entry that starts it up, but ActiveSync puts it right back as soon as you start it up again. Is there any way to permenantly stop ActiveSync from auto-starting?

Thanks!

There is a little utility that does this but I forget the name of it. You can try to search google for it. Until then, did you try start/run/msconfig/startup/uncheck wcescomm

here is another one that may help as well seems a bit more elaborate than the previous one stated above.
Since you can toggle it on or off and not just kill it.

Thanks!

Wow, thanks for the quick replies!

I decided to go with the Kill ActiveSync one since it had an option to change the shortcut so no that no window would appear (add -Kill to end of file path in shortcut). I then made Start ActiveSync and a Stop ActiveSync shortcuts on my desktop.

BTW... I just found out that you must have the actual ActiveSync window closed before you run Kill ActiveSync, because if you don't, the one remaining ActiveSync process will restart the rest.

Thanks again!

I just right click on the ActiveSync icon in the taskbar and left click on "Connection Settings". If you uncheck "Allow USB connections" then Active Sync will not recognize your PDA when it is in the cradel, turned on, and connected to the USB port.
