USB Connection Very Slow

Hey Guys,

I've just received my x51v a few Days ago and I really like it. But I think my USB Connection is too slow, because it takes me nearly 1 minute to copy a mp3 about 3 mb on it.

So I think it isnt really the best i can get, because I want to copy whole CD's, Picturebooks, etc ...

My PC got USB 2.0 so it should be 480 Mbits / s, thats 60 MB / s, so a mp3 should be on my PDA in less than 1 Sek, but it takes really long.

So, what can i do ?

That seems a bit excessive, although copying files through ActiveSync is known to be slow. Give CardExport ( http://www.softick.com/cardexport2 ) a try... it's $14.95 to register it, but it allows you to plug you Ax into any PC or Mac and copy files.

You can also consider getting a card reader (costs money) or copying the file via wifi (free). Both are faster than the USB connection.

But in theory USB should be the fastest ^^.

Wifi "just" got 11 or 100 mbit/s not 480. And a card reader would not be the same, cause i had to take the card out every time, and copy files from card to my axim ...

I think i will register cardexport

'in theory'

In practice it's far from it.

And why is it so far away. Is it the fault of ActiveSync or of the Axim hisself ?

And I failed to install Card Exporter 2. It sais something like "failed to create start menu links" or something like this, so i think i isnt supporting wm5 ...

Is there any other software like this but running on wm5 ?

Probably both. The early Pocket PCs were serial, then they included a USB interface but I believe it was still driven by the serial controller. Perhaps that still has some relevance, I'm not sure.

In addition to that, USB tends to have a high potential throughput, however it relies on the CPU of the computer to do the transfer, as opposed to something like Firewire which has dedicated ASICs to do most of the processing. This is why on paper USB is faster then FW (480Mb/s vs 400Mb/s) but in practice FW tends to out perform it. So maybe the Axim just doesn't have the horsepower to really crank it up.

Or maybe it's a combination of all those issues, I'm not sure

I use Wifi as my primary choice for transferring large amounts of data and find it very adequate.
