Interenet access through bluetooth?
I currently connect to activesync 4.1 with a usb cable and get internet/mail access on my pda
Which is cool I've just ordered a usb dongle and want to know if I activesync over bluetooth with my pc setup as it is now will I still get interenet and mail access? I read the tutorial for setting up bluetooth net access but a) Im on xp sp2 and dont think it applies b) I hate internet connection sharing c) I connect to the internet through a router on my LAN so dont think i can enable ICS anyway Cheers for any help

Fuzzy O:
The tutorial does apply for XP sp2. You must turn on ICS on your LAN connection of your PC (not the bluetooth network). This has nothing to do with your internet accessing through a router but everything to do with the LAN and bluetooth networks being separate therefore needing routing to get to your router/internet hence the need for ICS. Good luck ![]()

Are you sure that you don't have ICS enabled on another network connection. It can only be on one and then the option vanishes from all the others.

No mate I only have one network connection
Why would you get the option to turn ICS on when its a LAN connection - its not going into a broadband modem - it goes to a switch and on the switch I have an adsl router I always assumed that as windows XP cant see an internet connection on the LAN that it doesnt offer to share it That was my understanding anyway?

You don't need to do anything to get to the net through activesync. With bluetooth it will be exactly the same as with the USB connection.

You can share a LAN connection. I'm not at my work computer, but I know Iw as able to muddle through it. Personally, when it's all said and done, you are much better off setting up a BT ActiveSync for your internet connection. It's easier and has the added benefit of updating your information when you connect.

FWIW, you do not need to share an internet connection to enable the pda to access the internet over bluetooth. i'm connected now that way and use my pda as a second window on the www for quick searches and news alerts. works great. the ax is connected to a pc which is connected to a wired, routed, office lan and no internet sharing is activiate on the pc level on any computers on the network.
Its pretty quick, as far as i can tell.

Funny topic, because I can access the internet with wifi, in the cradle and bluetooth (at home computer) but at the office I am able to Sync, and download the mail from my outlook, but I am not able to connect to internet, which I am not sure which settings I am missing, two job parnerts are able to do it, but, both have HP PDA's, so I am not sure if this something related to my AX or a missing settings? any solution, feel free to send PM

I was also able to use a Bluetooth AS4.1 connection to surf and email. I think that before I got the DLINK dongle I could sure with a wired USB connection as my AS connection. I don't know if this is a new function of WM5 but it does work.
BUT... If you want to enable your WiFi to talk directly to your access point and thus to the outside world you will first need to disable your PDAs bluetooth connection as this prevents your WiFi from getting an IP address..... Someday... it will all work just the way we think it should... And windows will be free and gas will only cost 10 cents a litre... and the money tree in my back yard will start bearing fruit...... zzzzzz..zzzzz What a wonderful dream....

Excellent so if I connect to activesync over bluetooth it will sync my pda and allow me an internet connection - that is EXACTLY what I want
I rarely use it for internet access but it is nice to be able to roam around the house with MSN messenger on the PDA ![]() Thanks guys - I'll let you know how I get on when the dongle turns up
