You can't quit ActiveSync by closing it. Try ending the Activesync process in the task manager (ctrl+alt+del).

I use Activesync toggle so ending the process does not help. It's also not my firewall since I have that configured correctly. Maybe we should start listing the programs we have installed to see if there is a common program that is the problem. Here's my list:

iGuidance
Resco File Explorer
SPB Pocket Plus
SPB GPRS Monitor
SPB Diary
Wi-fi Companion
List Pro
Plan Maker
Text Maker
Pocket Informant
Pocket Holidays
Lexisgoo
Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide
Sunnysoft Backup Manager
Deinstaller.Net
Memmaid
Sk Tools
Stoaway Keyboard and Mouse
Tweaks2K2.Net
AI Roboform
Cash Organizer 05
Flex Wallet
I have some games too but I doubt those are the problem.

Worthless ActiveSync

I have had my Axim for only one month. I cannot get ActiveSync to work consistently and find it totally unreliable for installing software or syncing anything. I have an X51v with Rom A06 and WM5. I have read that ActiveSync has great difficulty cooperating with any kind of program that intercepts network traffic. That includes a typical firewall or any kind of low-level managed network software/hardware combination such as on-board firewall and network management in your LAN chipset (my new ASUS motherbaord has this). Anyhow, I have disabled the windows firewall, my 3rd party firewall, my chipset firewall, and ActiveSync is still totally unreliable. I use the XP Task Manager to kill and restart all 3 or 4 processes related to ActiveSync and still no luck. I have even run msconfig when WinXP Pro boots up and shut off almost every single startup item and windows service that could be shut off just to try to isolate the source of my woes. Still, ActiveSync is worthless. And Dell customer service is even more worthless on this issue. On the flip side, my Palm has no trouble whatsoever with HotSync via USB, but then Palm did not implement a TCP over USB scheme that ActiveSync uses. I don't know where else to go with this problem. I did a soft reset and put the Axim back in the cradle just now. I heard the usual chime and XP shows the Retrieving Device Data window with the message "Retrieving application data from the mobile device" And this is one of the places where this process hangs permanently. My axim is still responsive but ActiveSync is in la-la land again.

The ONLY way I can install software is by sneakernet -- swapping my SD chip. I take the SD out of the Axim, put it in my card reader in my printer, copy .CAB and .exe files to the SD with my windows desktop, put the SD back into the Axim, then install the applications by browsing to the files with File Explorer. Recently I have added FTP so I can grab the files with FTP wirelessly. But ActiveSync still doesn't work.

Is there any way to use ActiveSync with the wireless capability in the Axim? I have found wireless quite reliable thank goodness.
