Where does activesync keep the "to be installed" files on WinXP?

Hi,

Where does activesync keep the files for 3rd party apps before they get installed? Where does it keep the cab files (or arm files)?

Thanks,
Rich

Don't know if ActiveSync keeps the files anywhere?

I store the files, on desktop, My Documents, Mobile, and sub-files; i.e.: Zip-Paolo, PocketWeather, PocketMechanic, etc.

Run the files from where you stored 'em.

Go to Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync then you will see the folders for the apps you have installed. These folders will contain the CAB files.

It's not an Apps folder per se, but a folder for each of the Apps you have installed. Do you see any of those? They should be labelled by app name.

Your question reads like you may have a Palm background, true?

The Palm installer would queue up installs so that they would occur at the next hotsync.

The PPC installer seems to run in conjunction with activesync, so software installs are done in near realtime rather than queued up for later.

I installed this on my PC http://www.zx-10r.net/pdaview.zip & the software is loaded on the axim. I am trying to see if this works in a WM2005 envirnoment & am using this: http://www.furrygoat.com/2005/09/portable_ce_20.html

To test it out.

On my PC I cannot find the cab files for that program.

I installed it on my laptop (no PPC installed on it) and nothing is sitting in the program files section.

If I could find the cab file I could test out the app. I just cant find it :)

I checked on my PC and MOST of the cab files are in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync" within their own unique folders (such as "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\AIM" for instant messenger).

However I did notice that some of the games and other programs I installed werent in the activesync folder so I looked around for them and some installed in regular folders on the hard drive. Example: the game Worms installed in "C:\Program Files\Jamdat\Worms Pocket PC" and BioBody installed in "C:\Program Files\BioBody".

Just do a search (Start - Search) on your desktop for the name of the program you're looking for and the folder with the cab files in it should turn up.
