Activesync window won't pop up when double clicked! Please Help!
Ok...I am having problems with Activesync not popping up when double clikced down in the running programs. I have read other posts about this happening but they are all trying to sync via Wifi Activesync. For me this is happening when I dock it in the cradle. When I go to explore on it I get the "Critical communications services have failed to start" error. I have tried to reinstall Activesync, soft reset, and hard reset all with no luck. I have heard that Spyware might be a problem causing this. I think I might have something becasue I have 2 new things in my start up folder: cablemodem.exe and taskmanager32.exe, but I have scanned with Zone Alarm, System Mechanic, Ad-Aware, and Spybot and they all found nothing. I have also scanned for viruses using Zone Alarm with nothing popping up. Can someone please help me with this. It is driving me crazy!
Thanks,
-Jon-

Ya, I have seen that link before and I tryed everything on that thread, but still no luck. I have just posted all my info on the hijackthis! forum on that website. Apparently that are supposed to look at it and help you fix it. I still haven't got a responce from them yet. My screen name on that website it jonjon1123 if anyone want to look at my post and see if they can figure anything out. Thanks.

I have the same problem as the OP.
I did have activesync 4.1 installed...but it doesn't work well with Mobile2003. So, I uninstalled 4.1, reinstalled 3.8 and now my activesync window will not open when I double click the icon. Clicking explore also yields the error as mentioned above. Any help would be much appreciated....

That was a little while ago, but what I did was search this site or Google and eventually I found a post in some forum that said that reason this is happening is that Activesync 4.1 is not completely uninstalling. This post was really nice as it told you exactly what you need to delete to completely uninstall, but unfortunately I do not remember what he said or where the post is. Try searching the error you get (something like "Critical communications error", you should get it if you try and explore the PDA) on Google and this site. You should fine something. Real sorry I am not more help. But you problem is the fact that Activesync 4.1 isn't uninstalling completely.

Ahh thanks for the tip. I did a search and found this:
If you have to uninstall ActiveSync 4.x and want to reinstall ActiveSync 3.x, you need to use Add/Remove programs to uninstall ActiveSync 4.x. Then you need to delete the files C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\RAPI.DLL and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CEUTIL.DLL. Then you can install ActiveSync 3.x normally. Please note that uninstalling ActiveSync 4.x will delete all your partnerships.
However, when I tried to delete these two files I couldn't. I disconnected my cradle (connected via USB) and rebooted the machine. I could then delete those files.
I re-installed ActiveSync 3.8 and it works fine now. Thanks again.
