I didn't realize until after I'd installed v 4.1 that it wasn't compatible with my PPC.

I have an X30 mid which of course doesn't have WM5.0.

However, once I tried to uninstall it and reinstall 3.7 or 3.8 (I was trying everything I could), the PPC would 'connect' with activesync, as evidenced by the icon in the taskbar turning green and a balloon popping up on mouseover saying 'connected'; but I couldn't get the activesync interface to open.

I tried soft reset and hard reset. Of course, I searched for the answer high and low, with no luck at all. Some solutions I found through search were that my TCPIP ?stack? or something was corrupted. There's some sort of "netsh int reset resetlog.txt" command I tried, which fortunately didn't hurt anything.

So, the solution that finally worked for me was contained in the C:\Program files\Microsoft Activesync folder in the "wcesetup.log" file.

I won't paste everything in the file, but the actual root of the problem...

Essentially, 3.8 wouldn't overwrite the 4.1 files.

My solution was that I had to go into those directories and rename all of those files.

Once I did that, I reinstalled 3.8, did a soft reset on my PPC and everything all a-ok now.:)

edit: One thing that's important to add. Most of those files listed above remain on the hard drive even following uninstall through add/delete.

I had the same problem. Thanks for posting your solution it will help others. There's also another thread that has instructions on how to roll back to 3.8.
