ActiveSync and Exchange 2003 Event ID 1801
Here's the situation:
I have exchange 2003 enterprise up and running. I have just finished doing the upgrade to SP2. I can connect to the OWA, no problem. My Outlook 2003 client can connect to exchange, no problem. But......when I setup and try to sync via my Nextel smartphone, it tells me that Synchronization failed. It gives me an error code: INTERNET_29. When I check my event viewer, it gives me an Event ID 1801, cannot access the Exchange server.......IT IS THE EXCHANGE SERVER!!! It can't contact itself? I'm completely at my whit's end with this. I'd really like to get this to work, however, Microsoft has nothing pertaining to event id 1801, so no help there. Is there ANYONE out there who can help? I'm desperate. Thanks, Joe

This might be a certificates issue:
Check out this FAQ, which might help: Pocket PC FAQ Link Here's an excerpt that may be relevant: If you do not have any certificate on the website and are using a SmartPhone you may see the error INTERNET_29 (something about check connectivity.... presumably this means the server is not listening on HTTPS: port 443) So you definitely do need a certificate of some type applied to the exchange web site, to open up port 443, and unless it's a trusted root certificate you will also have to run certchk.exe OFF or install the AS_Cert_Off.cab on the SmartPhone.

well, I got the certificate installed, but I don't think that's the problem. When I try to connect to the OMA online from the server that has exchange 2003 and IIS on it, it just tells me that it cannot connect to your mailbox on server "Exchange server".
Why can't I connect to the mailbox? Very bizzare. Please help Joe

Have you checked - in Active Directory - to ensure that your account (under Exchange Features tab) has OMA enabled? Sorry that's an obvious one, but have to ask ...

Active Directory
Yeah, OMA is enabled in Active Directory. My web server however is running on port 8088 instead of the usual 80. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not. I can still connect to the web site from an outside source, and I can put in the url for OMA, it asks me for my credentials, then it tells me that it's unable to connect to the mailbox.
