Activesync says your device not detected

Hi
I am a newbie with Axim. I got an Axim 51v 2 days back and since then I am trying to sync it with my HP PC (running Windows XP home sp2) using active sync. All the time when connected through cradle Activesync could not detect my system. When I use File --> Connection setting --> connect it says "Your device was not detected". I tried the following:

1. First I installed Activesync 4.0 from Dell supplied Getting started CD and tried to connect using cradle, I got a wierd message saying some logfile was deleted (I am not sure of this message)
2. Then I installed Activesync 4.1 from windows website. Then I tried connecting my device to the laptop using cradle, I can see the messages "New hardware found", "your new hardware is installed and ready for use". But activesync in PC could not detect my AXIM.
3. Then I disabled my Norton Firewall and Anti virus and tried to connect still same problem.
4. I tried a soft reset of Axim and restart of PC
5. I tried reinstalling Activesync 4.1 couple of times
6. In all the above attempts I ensured that the device is connected only after the laptop has started completely and activsync is working.
7. I am able to sync using Infrared.
8. I checked device manager, no unknown/anamolos USB driver was found.

Request help.

Thanks in Advance
Muthu

I am havingthe exact same problem with my X51v and also my X50v WM5.0.
My laptop will not sync with it as if it is not there, but my system recognizes the unit normally. I am using 4.1 and have reverted to 4.0 Activesync without avail. Interestingly, both Axims sync with my desktop running the same versions of software and OS.

Since misery loves company, I thought I would let you know you are not alone...

If you have a Firewall the port may be blocked and the PDA won't be detected. This is a known problem with WM5 and the X50 or X51. Do google with "Axim and Firewall"

Hi I have tried disabling the firewall and anti virus also, still activesync did not detect the axim. Then I tried steps mentioned in "Activesync trouble shooting guide" http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx
for norton firewall. But still axim was not recognized by activesync 4.1

Is there anyway around the firewall issue? I'm trying to install this on my work computer and they don't give us the password to shutdown the program. There's nothing that looks remotely like the program in the Task Manager process list either, so no luck doing a hard shutdown.

TIA

Hi

The only work around the firewall issue for activesync (that I know of is) to use the connect using infra red or connect using Bluetooth option. If your work computer do not have either of these (Infrared or Blueetooth) you can buy USB adaptors for this for less than $20. But transfering files or installing software using these 2 options will take a lot of time.

My work around is plug the Axim USB directly into the USB port. Not thorugh a USB hub. It works 100% of the time. I really don't know why.

I had this issue with my X51V also, I installed AS4.0 then upgraded to 4.1 this is when my device stopped being seen, I uninstalled AS and re-installed 4.0 with the same problem, I then tried connecting the Axim with just the USB sync cable and it worked first time, I then tried the USB cradle again but the device was not detected, then I pushed the X51V "firmly" into the cradle and viola it now works every time, seems the X51 was not making a proper connection with the cradle, not sure if this will help you but it worked for me.

I run.. well, ran Sygate firewall. I have to EXIT the firewall to get it to sync.
Let me know if this helps.

Hi
Good news at last. I could now sync my axim with my laptop. The problem was whenever I connected axim using a cradle, windows XP automatically installed the following adaptor
In device manager I saw PMCIA adaptors - under this node I found
O2Micro OZ6912 CardBus Controller. When I uninstall this manually and I am able sync my Axim with laptop using cradle.
