Does anyone know how the release of Vista sometime this year (Before the end of 2006 because window's is ending support for XP on Dec. 31st, 2006) will act upon the PPC's? I am really looking forward to Vista on the labtops, and I am not sure how my axim will sync or anything.
P.S.(I decided that the Multimeda forum would be best because Vista is built around Multimedia)

Microsoft are supporting Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me till June 30, 2006.I can't Imagine them ending XP support this year!!
Microsoft clarifies Windows XP support plans
It will offer support for the OS for two years after the release of Windows Vista.Read here http://www.computerworld.com/softwar...107753,00.html

I'm a Vista beta tester and I've played with all the beta builds so far. Vista will integrate an active sync like application into the OS. None of the beta or CTP builds that have been released so far have been able to sync with my Axim x30. The latest build (5270) contains a Mobility Center that launches when you connect a mobile device. Unfortunately, Mobility Center is little more than a billboard at this time.
The February CTP is expected to be feature complete and will hopefully sync with a mobile device.
Another noteworthy addition is the WinCal application. It may be possible to sync a mobile device with WinCal and the regular Windows Address Book. This would allow syncing without having to use Outlook.
Is there somewhere I can get the test version of Windows Vista....I would greatly like to mess with the beta, thanks.

So your saying when vista is finally released you wont have to install as. You'll just be able to sync with the software that is included with the os. The best feature i've heard about thats going to be in vista is being able to back up all data, like we do on our ppcs. This would save a lot of time when fresh installing windows. I hope ms releases this backup program for xp. Please ms, i don't want to upgrade.

for a beta it is looking sweet (and amazingly stable) but it still needs polishing.

I downloaded the beta and in my opinion its bloated. Its way too fancy, It wasnt anywhere near stable on the three comps I tried and it requires a ton of ram.
Vista I heard is supposed to be released in Fall 2006. I'm testing it right now and I think Microsoft is finally taking advantage of today's graphic cards. I do agree though it is a little to fancy for me.

Well xp was made in like 01-02. An os being made in 05-06 is going to be more bloated and more of a resource hog than the older xp os.
Define bloat for me.
I value things that help me get my work done faster. For example, the indexing service in Vista takes quite a bit of RAM. However, it speeds up searches many times over. The a real productivity increase. Virtual folders help speed up finding my files, but they increase the file system complexity a little.
"Bloat" as you describe it look like features to me.
One could also add that unused cpu cycles are wasted cycles and unused RAM is wasted RAM. The longer I use computers the more I agree with this statement. Right now I have a video card capable of processing millions of operations per second and it is just sitting there pretty much doing nothing. Vista will make that video card render and accelerate the GUI and several other tricks that I can't talk about here.
Bloat? Perhaps a bit un-resouce friendly, but definately GUI heavy. I have had the beta, and although I have not had the time to do some extensive testing (Hey, I'm still in school!), I can tell you this: It makes XP feel like Alpha software.
