Lost desktop harddrive - how resync?

I recently lost my desktop hard drive, had to install a new drive and install all my pc programs from scratch. I have an X5 which previously had a partnership with this computer.

I have 2 questions:

How do I re-establish a partnership after I re-install active sync? I really don't want to zero out the Axim.

Which version of active sync is the best version to use. I have an X5 running WM2003.

Thanks in advance - Mike ////\/\\/\/////

Generically, you need to reinstall your new HD as MASTER. When that is complete put your old HD in as SLAVE.

You then MAY be able to copy some of the undamaged files from your old HD to your new one. File types include: word docs, emails, address book, photos, and your old active synch restore points.

Good luck.

With a fresh install of ActiveSync, the first time you sync you will be prompted to establish a partnership. Just follow the prompts and you should be able to re-create what you had before. Just to be safe, you might want to back up the Axim first using the built-in utility.

I would recommend ActiveSync 3.8 for your X5. ActiveSync 4.x no longer allows wireless sync.

GiGi,

Thanks for the advice. I will install activesync 3.8 which I have already downloaded. I was able to back up all of my data from my hard drive before it quit, but I didn't know how or what to back up to restore my previous activesync status.

I'll make sure I back up the Ax to one of my cards before I start mucking around with activesync - that's a good idea.
