rndismpx.sys

I just upgraded from a x30 to a x51. I installed activesync from the disk. The install program ends, I plug in the cradle and it says "new hardware found"

The it started looking for a driver and cannot find rndismpx.sys in D:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers.

Dell support's answer was to find a different computer to connect to. I guess I need to rush out and buy another $1000 computer to get the Axim to sync.

Anybody else know what to do?

rndismpx.sys is found in several other locations on the computer. The latest is from Oct 20, 2005. Is this the latest? Can I just move it to the location above?

Did you install Activestink 4.0 or 4.1?

If you did 4.0 --- try 4.1.

Otherwise, I would give that file you found a try. Can't hurt if its already broken :)

I copied one of the files it found into that directory, it got past that problem. The exact same problem occurs with usb8023x.sys. I did the same thing copying it.

Now Activesync on the PC goes green but just spins and spins. It never makes the connection to the Axim.

Device manager shows a Windows Mobile-based Device #3 in Network Adapters. And it says it is working properly.

What's wrong?

If you are in perpetual "Connecting" mode, here are a few things to look for.

Make sure you see a "Windows Mobile-based Device" under Network Adapters in Device Manager.

From a command prompt, execute an "ipconfig /all". You should see a network device named "Windows Mobile-based Device". It will have an IP address of 169.254.2.x. You will also see a DHCP server with an IP address one number away from the IP given to the device.

If these two above conditions are met, start looking for a firewall or anti-virus software as being the possible culprit keeping ActiveSync from connecting to the device. Although your PDA is connecting to the PC through the USB cable, communication is taking place via TCP/IP, and anything that blocks network traffic (like firewalls and anti-virus software) may potentially block communications between your device and ActiveSync.
