Forcing ActiveSync partnership creation

I understand that ActiveSync automatically launches a partnership wizard the first time the Axim PocketPC is connected to the computer. If the user chooses not to create a partnership at that time, the Axim is designated as a guest.

Is there a mechanism to subsequently run ActiveSync's partnership wizard and create a partnership, or does one have to either reinstall ActiveSync or do a hard reset of the Axim? (Stupid options, but then, we are talking about a Microsoft product.)

If I remember correctly, it will pop up the wizzard each time you connect untill you establish a partnership.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. The PocketPC connects as a guest--the partnership wizard does not launch.

I've done quite a bit of online research trying to get a handle on this ActiveSync issue. I came across a KB article on MS's Website detailing how to modify the registry so that the partnership wizard does not launch when a PocketPC is initially connected to the computer, but I know the user did not perform such a registry modification.

Also, ActiveSync's Help suggests the partnership wizard is launched only the first time a particular PocketPC is connected to the computer. As I read the ActiveSync Help discussion of partnerships, the device is identified as a guest if the user doesn't define the partnership upon this first connection, and the partnership wizard is not subsequently launched. Perhaps I'm reading this wrong. Microsoft doesn't document ActiveSync very well, and they provide no real support for any of their products.

with the pda disconnected, look on the desktop AS under file>mobile device. does the name of your device appear in the list? if so then select it. then delete it under file>delete mobile device. then connect the pda and it should start the popup again. Havent tried this lately but it might work.
