So, what 'drivers' did you install? I've had the same problem as everyone else, but cannot get any drivers that windows likes. It insists on installing a "Windows Mobile-based Device" as a network adapter.

I cannot find anything that will recognize the x50v once WM5 was installed.

My boss is getting ticked now too.... :)

I don't really know what drivers I installed, I just put the disk I got from Dell, the Microsoft windows Mobile 5.0 getting started CD and it loaded the drivers it needed.

There is lot's of info on this not connecting problem on MS activesync site
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...c/default.mspx
Maybe they will have more info for you than anyone here is finding.

Hope you can get it worked out, it just seems to be a buggy program when USB's are involved.

I FOUND IT - I FOUND IT - I FOUND IT!!!!!

My problems were related to old software... This might be helpful for other people having 'detection' problems. I would get the "connectinggggggggggg......" message. Here's what I found:

1) The suspect program was a 2003 version of Sprite Backup - It always tried to interact with PPC2003 and Activesync at the time the device was cradled.

2) I un-installed ALL of my PPC/WM apps from the PC. You're probably supposed to do this in the first place, but I'm a guy and didn't read the directions.

3) Once ALL WM/PPC programs were uninstalled, that ensured that NOTHING was trying to "talk" to the PPC via ActiveSync.

4) Then I went to ZoneAlarm and removed ALL programs (not just PPC ones) from the access list so that next time they 'request' service, I will get a prompt to allow or disallow them.

4) Then, a REBOOT with the device OUT of the cradle. Lots of requests for program validation from the firewall, but that is to be expected.

5) Put in the PPC AFTER bootup and all the tray programs were loaded (formerly TSR's for those of us old enough to remember that term!). As soon as the Axim went into the cradle - questions from the firewall requesting access...

It worked!~

DON'T FORGET: If you have Zone Alarm or Windows Firewall or any other Internet Security or Firewall software - you MUST put in 169.254.0.0 subnet as a TRUSTED network. This is the network the PPC uses. And I could be way off on this - it may even use a different subnet on different PC's - I just noticed I'm getting random addresses in teh 169.254.0.0 range on MY configuration. Yours may be different.

I sure hope that helps some more of you guys & gals struggling with AS 4.1 and WM5.

My axim decided to randomly stop being detected by my computer. I uninstalled active sync and reinstalled version 3.8. When it gets to the point where it tells me to turn my device on and put it in its cradle, I do so and then the window giving me instructions on connecting to my axim closes and a Windows tooltip pops up that says "Found Hardware Dell Axim" and then it pops up that's it is installing something, then pops up again to say it is installed. Then I try to open activesync and it doesn't detect my device, I do that manual detection where it plays a very annoying dinging noise and it finds nothing. Is that windows detecting new hardware and installing it screwing up the installation process?

Thanks
On your computer, right-click “My Computer” and click Properties.
Click on “Hardware” tab.
Click “Device Manager”.
Highlight the first icon at the top (looks like monitor).
Click “Action” located at the top.
Finally, click “Scan for hardware changes”.

Hope this helps!

Hey, activesync randomly stopped detecting my axim after a year and a half of working fine. The only thing I can think of, was MS sent some update to windows xp a few nights ago because my computer updated itself and then restarted itself. That happened at around 3 am. I was having some insomnia so I decided to try an install the latest pocketbreeze beta, and that's when my axim stopped being recognized. Perhaps it just coincidence, but that's the only thing that had changed to my computer or axim since I had synced it earlier that night. Is there any way an xp update could screw up something like activesync detecting my axim? I also wanted to say I've tried every suggestion in this thread and a few others, and all of them deal with setting up activesync on my pc. Is there anyway I could have screwed up a setting on my axim that would cause it to not sync?

The soft reset solved my active sync problem which sounds similar to the one above. I am now syncing once more... success! Thanks!

This isn't fun, but after trying to reinstall activesync a million times and trying to find a setting I messed up on my pda, I finally just did a hard reset. Then I installed activesync 4.2 on my computer and it found my pda no problem, so obviously something on my pda got messed up. I still don't know what. Time to load all my programs back on...hurray!

HI,

This is the best advice I found so far to resolve my sync with ActiveSync.

Thank you so much.

(could not connect, could not find my device, all the same problems everyone else has, worked fine on the PC, would not connect with the laptop.)

Here is what I did after reading and rereading thousands of these threads and winging it myself:

1) I turned off my firewall.
2) uninstalled AS
3) hooked up cradle with USB, Axim X51 in cradle
4) installed ActiveSync from my 'Axim getting started CD'
5) went to Device Manager/Action/ scan for hardware changes
6) It found it! then I got a new message, asking for the drivers to be installed - hadn't seen that on any of these posts and threads. so...
7) installed the Axim drivers on the laptop and
BOOM
ActiveSync goes green, connects, gives me the sync options, I pick what I want synced and now I am going to go do laundry and finally take a shower.

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I never saw these suggestions in any thread, so maybe this will help someone else.

I've still have some problems every now and then connecting, I think that it works best if the cradle is hooked up before I boot up the laptop. Microsoft has quite a lot of info on their site about the Active Sync USB problems, so hopefully the next upgrade of ActiveSync will resolve these issues, and not have new ones that are even worse!

Loading AS 4.1 or 4.2 leaves old drivers

Hi everyone,

My laptop MB died last week and so had to get a rebuilt, one IBM T40, old but efficent. Anyway after reloading WinXp Pro and all my software I started in with the Axim x50v with WM5. It is synch'd with my Desktop primary and the laptop secondary and has worked very well once I did all the exchange stuff etc.

Now to the problem! The laptop sees the Axim but never connects. The driver says the device is stopped and gives a code 10. After reading this and a many other sites, I have unloaded AS, removed all references in registry, removed all files and directories. No changes in what happens. Looking at the drivers and comparing the files on my desktop to my laptop I finally determined that the rndismpx.sys and
usb802x.sys drivers in the windows/system32/drivers folder are the old. The laptop is using version 2170 and 2781 on the desktop. Best I can tell loading AS should load the new drivers but doesn't. I have tried copying the two files but Windows File Protection takes over and replaces them with the previous version. I have tried AS from the WM5 CD, AS 4.1 and 4.beta and all give the same results.

I can sync the Axim via IR but talk about slooooow. Any ideas?

jc
