I have 2 laptops (personal and work). Active synch on the home latop works just fine (ver 4.1 and X51v) but when I installed active synch on the office latop running XP professional (home has XP home edition) it does not even recognise a device is connected to it....what gives?
Also Active synch when ever it gets connected messes up my wirelss network card and drop the connection to the network
If Zone Alarm is locked you won't be able to. Google Zone Alarm and ActiveSync. You will find many hits with what you are looking for. I didn't put a link here as too many different configurations are explained. Good luck :approve:

mcafee was blocking a few ports but after un blocking them nothing happened. Not even the new hardware found wizard comes up...noting its like nothing connected to the USB
Try a soft reset of your PDA. I have to soft reset my PDA each time I want to sync.
I place it in the cradle and it does not see the PDA. Have AS 4.1 "look" for the PDA still no go.
I soft reset the PDA and put it in the cradle and it sync's up. It will continue to sync all day long as long as I leave it in the cradle. If I take it out of the cradle and then try to put it back in the cradle it will not sync. I have to do a soft reset.
Not the way it should be but I have a work around till something better comes along.
Same issue here. It worked once, but hasn't worked since. The desktop sees the Mobile device, but, ActiveSync 4.1 does not. And I noticed that even if you config. AS to search on the USB only, it still searches the COM ports. Very frustrating. (Anyone got a J2ME runtime on the Axim x51 yet?)
Tapping the soft-reset key worked for my problem which must've been similar to the individual who used the technique to regain synching ability.
Prior to using his method, I tried every USB port in the known world on several hubs and directly to the PC I was using. No dice. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling MS's latest version of Activesynch to no avail. The problem lies with the PDA, that's for sure, and I had a tiny scare!
But thankfully the soft-reset worked. Hazzah!
Best of luck to all you AximHeads out there with your synching issues (sinking?).
I FINALLY got my ActiveSync working on my new Dell XPS laptop - it drove me crazy for 3 days. My boss is mad and my kids are mad, but I'm doing a little dance amid piles of work and laundry that have been neglected while I've been battling the ActiveSync demons. (could not connect, could not find my device, all the same problems everyone else has, worked fine on the PC, would not connect with the laptop.)
Here is what I did after reading and rereading thousands of these threads and winging it myself:
1) I turned off my firewall.
2) uninstalled AS
3) hooked up cradle with USB, Axim X51 in cradle
4) installed ActiveSync from my 'Axim getting started CD'
5) went to Device Manager/Action/ scan for hardware changes
6) It found it! then I got a new message, asking for the drivers to be installed - hadn't seen that on any of these posts and threads. so...
7) installed the Axim drivers on the laptop and
BOOM
ActiveSync goes green, connects, gives me the sync options, I pick what I want synced and now I am going to go do laundry and finally take a shower.
I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I never saw these suggestions in any thread, so maybe this will help someone else.

here's a question... if i have my x51v connecting fine on my desktop, and i'm trying to have it syncing on the D610 laptop as well, is there a setting or two that i should update on the desktop/axim prior to trying the laptop?
like a "hey connect to 2 devices" setting or something?
updated...
finally got this thing working... it decided to show up in my network places. from a post i read earlier, i should 'turn on' all the settings for the network on the mobile device, since its setup as a network device... did that and its good to go.
once again. this site is a ton of helpful info.
party.
Mine used to work. I juse recently wiped the laptop becaue of problems. Now with a fresh build with *no* firewall, all I get is the TCP/IP connection and ActiveSync connecting, connecting, connectinggggggg...
All three services are checked in the properties of the Axim's network connection, and I'm not using any firewall at all right now.
Any suggestions? Does anyone have the URL of a comprehensive list of things to try? I'm about to throw this thing in the middle of the highway.
